A digital archive in a printed yearbook: how NFC works

A chip in the cover opens a private archive on any phone. What it is, what it holds and why it keeps a book alive.

A printed book is a great keepsake, but it cannot play a video. A digital archive can. The trick is connecting the two without an app.

How it works

An NFC chip, the same technology as contactless payment, is laminated inside the cover. Hold a phone to it and a private web page opens. No app, no account, no password. A printed QR code on the inside cover is the backup.

Want your yearbook made for you?AerEthos designs every page. Your staff give about an hour in total.

What it holds

  • Videos and photo galleries from the year
  • Playlists the year group chose
  • A permanent home for what does not fit on paper

Privacy

The archive page is private and cannot be found through search engines. It is reached only through the chip or the printed code.
