The message at the front of a yearbook is the first thing parents read. Keep it short, warm and specific.
A four-part structure
- Open with one concrete memory from the year
- Say what you noticed about this group in particular
- Thank the people who made it happen
- End with a wish for what comes next
Keep it human
Cut the jargon. Replace general praise with one real moment, such as the trip that went wrong and ended well, or the team that lost and still sang on the bus.
Length
Around 150 to 250 words suits a single page. Shorter is almost always better.
Who should write one
- The principal or deputy principal
- The year head
- A teacher the year group chose
- A student, for the class dedication
